One small step forward. My son's renal ultrasound came back negative this time for his hydronephrosis (kidney fluid retention). We will retest him again for his urinary reflux this summer. Downside, his MRI came back positive for brain damage but I haven't been able to reach his neurologist yet for more information. Keep praying for his recovery please! That's good news about your son's kidneys. I'm sorry about the other news. Is this a congenital issue or something caused by an injury? (You don't have to answer if that's too personal...you just said your husband had gotten physical with you and your son, didn't know if that was the cause).
(((hugs))) to you and your children.
I hope you all have a blessed, safe and Merry Christmas _________________ Lisa D

My son's medical issues have been since birth, ongoing issues. I've been averaging 1-2 times a month ER visits for various flare ups lately. He has about 9 diagnosis' and has about 9 therapists and doctors that treat him. _________________ 46 yrs, RN, 1st mar. 1982-div. 2002, 2nd mar. 2004-? Currently separated. Five kids, two step. Praying for you and your son. How old is he?
Sometimes I miss messages and come in in the middle - which is what I feel like now. If it's too painful, don't answer, but I would be interested in hearing more. How many kids do you have? What ages?

7 kids, the youngest is 3. He is the one with all the medical issues. He was born at 36 weeks with a urinary infection, peeing blood. The pediatrician at the hospital ignored it saying it was from his prematurity. After dealing with insurance, etc. and five more doctors, I finally got him to the Chief Pediatric doctor at UC Davis who diagnosed his kidney issues. He had jaundice for over three months. We're waiting for the results of the MRI to see if he also has cerebral palsy. More later on his other issues..........thanks for asking!

The MRI showed soft tissue brain damage, most likely from birth when he had the cord wrapped around his neck twice and was totally purple when he delivered. I won't know if the ped neurologist will label him CP until late next week. _________________ 46 yrs, RN, 1st mar. 1982-div. 2002, 2nd mar. 2004-? Currently separated. Five kids, two step. David's neurologist finally made the diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. He also was accepted back into the regional program. Right now we're fighting insurance for othotics for David to wear in his shoes. My Mom's cancer looks like it will be cured or at least go into remission for 10+ years after her chemotherapy is done. I'm scheduled to see a oral surgeon for possible tongue cancer. I bite the inside of my cheek as a stress outlet and the dentist thinks it may be causing the problem. _________________ 46 yrs, RN, 1st mar. 1982-div. 2002, 2nd mar. 2004-? Currently separated. Sometimes I don't know wether to laugh or cry. David was "farting" last night and laughing so hard that he threw up. He aspirated and coughed all night long. So now I have to be on the lookout for pneumonia caused from him inhaling the vomit. I'm sooooo tired from everything happening. _________________ 46 yrs, RN, 1st mar. 1982-div. 2002, 2nd mar. 2004-? Bless your heart, girlfriend! You have alot on your plate. That is good news about your mom. Keep up the insurance fight for your son's braces....I've had plenty go-arounds with insurance companies.
When I taught special ed, many of my CP students' families would go through the Shriners to get the braces, wheelchairs, walkers and other equipment.
(((hugs))) to you! It's good to hear from you. I will keep you in my prayers. _________________ Lisa D

I know it's not all good news; but it is all encouraging news.
Don't know how you keep up with all of it.
You are in my prayers; keep us posted when you can. _________________ married 30 years; daughter #1 + grandson;

We were able to get our son's orthotics on base for free. He cried when they did the casting, up to his knees. I can handle him just being uneasy, afraid but at least this time there was no pain! My 15 year old is having an MRI this Wednesday. Looking for a brain tumor. He's having migraines 3-4 times a week all of a sudden and the migraine meds don't help at all. Thanks to all of you for your support. It's been so nice to be able to talk about everything here without being judged or criticized. _________________ 46 yrs, RN, 1st mar. 1982-div. 2002, 2nd mar. 2004-? Currently separated. Carol,
Glad you finally got the orthotics - it's been a long fight - and the price is right!
My younger dau had migraines and had a CT scan (negative) and every other test they could think of. She still has them, but not as often and not as severe - just growing out of them I guess. Will pray for the 15 yo.
Good to hear from you _________________ married 30 years; daughter #1 + grandson;

David (4 yrs) is still slowly progressing, two steps forward, one step backwards. Nik (15 yrs) is still having migraines. Every test has come back negative. The medication does not work at all for him. Migraines 3-4 times a week still. Rick (spouse?) is still waiting for his court judgement. He has controlled his temper since December with three low grade flare ups. He still says he will go to counseling but not until his court issues are resolved. I spoke with his attorney and they told him not to start counseling until after his judgement is in. They said it would imply guilt and make his case worse. I am in agreement with this since I also do not want him to go to prison but only to have counseling. My Mom is handling her cancer treatments well. Good news...My daughter graduates in two weeks with her bachelors degree! YEA!!!!!!
Love to all of you!
